The Prisoners being in court. –
Loitoon.
Loitong, younger brother to Soittong is sworn, and states in answer to questions put to him by the Chief Magistrate.
On the night of the 5th April, I slept in the house of Le:Now. I did not sleep with him. I slept in (The witness here contradicts himself, and states, that he slept in the same rooms, and that Lo: tum po slept in the adjoining bed room.) I slept on the floor. How = None of us sleep anywhere else, but in our houses. We follow the occupation of Fishermen.
On the 5th April, we went to sleep at our usual hour, which is, when they beat the drum, at the encampment of the English Soldiers (M. ab Gofleck). We never, by any chance, go out of our houses after this time.
Now
3rd Witness for Defence.
Wifikanter.
J Softener. Now has no wife. There were sleeping in the house the night of the 5th April, Atow, my mother, sister in law, Loi kumpo and Le tor myself.
To my knowledge, we went out of the house from about 9 o'clock until daylight, next morning. I know Wong neither in the waking hours, but do not know how long she has been there. She lived in a small house with her husband. Wongneis never lived in the same house with us. I never saw her in our house at any time. I never heard of Thai waw. She never lived with us, to my knowledge. I know nothing of the disturbance at Phai-wan, I never saw Gaonsps before. I know all about the matter of the Murder.
